Please note:

  • Scholarships awards are for one semester.
  • Students must reapply each semester to be considered for additional scholarships.
  • Students with a cummulative GPA of less than 3.0 may apply however, scholarship awards are based on academic performance and recipients will generally have a cummulative GPA of higher than 3.0.
  • Applying for a scholarship does not guarantee you will recieve an award nor does it guarantee a minimum amount of an award.
  • No essay required

 

Scholarship Descriptions

ALTA LEWIS DOLLAR:

Must be full-time juniors or seniors who are majoring in business.  They must demonstrate outstanding academic performance, particularly in business courses, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.  They must be making normal progress toward graduation at Texas Wesleyan, and must meet all other regular qualifications for financial aid.  Family PREFERENCE is to award scholarships to more than one student each semester.  Each recipient shall be designated an Alta Lewis Dollar Scholar.  The Director of Financial Aid shall be responsible for the evaluation and screening of all applicants.  Final authority for selection of scholarship recipient lies with the Financial Aid Department and the Dean of School of Business and his/her designated representatives in accordance with established policy at Wesleyan and accrediting association standards.  All efforts will be made to carry out the wishes of the donors.

E. L. BAKER GENERAL:

No Restrictions

E. L. BAKER MEMORIAL:

Recipients of the two Baker Scholarship should be full-time Business or Finance majors.  They should be of sound moral character and in good academic standing, with a demonstrated need to financial aid.

HYDE:

Exclusively for scholarships for worthy students in the Div. of Business Admin.

CHARLIE HILLARD:

Full-Time, senior business majors who possess the same entrepreneurial split for which King Charlie Hillard was known.  Must exhibit financial need and may be a student whose grades may not have achieved the levels originally desired because of employment which requires great commitment.  Must be in good academic standing, making normal progress toward graduation and must meet all other qualifications for financial aid.  Recipients should be from the North Texas area.

THOMAS LAW:

A $2,500 scholarship, awarded annually to an outstanding business student who shows academic excellence, with a GPA of 3.3 or better, and who shows leadership skills through co-curricular activities, community service and/or civic involvement.  The award will be made through the School of Business and will be in addition to other scholarships given to the student through Texas Wesleyan.  This is not a renewable award.

J. & VERA MAXWELL:

For the benefit of deserving and interested Business Administration students who best exemplify and demonstrate their belief in the American system of free enterprise.  Nominations to be made by the Chairman of the School of Business.

MCFADDEN:

From the 1975 gift:  Recipients should be worthy students.  PREFERENCE should be given to Accounting and Business Administration majors.

From the 1985 gift:  Recipients should be worthy students.  PREFERENCE should be given to Fort Worth area students.  The scholarship has a four-year limit and should not amount to more than $1,600 annually.  In addition, not grant should be given for athletics as a distinction from academics.  Each recipient shall be designated as an “Ella McFadden Scholar.”

MILLER BREWING:

Matriculated students in the School of Business who may not have adequate financial means to meet the cost of the education.  Must meet academic and admissions standards.

CLIFTON MORRIS:

Full-time student, in good academic standing, major in a field of study within the School of Business.  Must demonstrate academic excellence with a minimum GPA of 3.0 PREFERENCE given to students who show a concern for their community through service and co-curricular activities, and who show entrepreneurial potential.  Must be making normal progress toward graduation and must meet all other regular qualifications for financial aid.

DAVID RITTER:

Must be accounting majors in the School of Business as approved by the Trustees of the University.  In the event that an accounting student who would meet scholarship requirements cannot be identified, then a student majoring in business will be eligible to receive the scholarship.  The recipient must be enrolled full-time and be a junior or senior in academic standing.  Must be of sound moral character, must have a demonstrated need for financial assistance, making normal progress toward graduation and must meet all other regular qualifications for financial aid.  An award made to a junior will be a two-year award.  An award to a senior will be a one-year award.  The Director of Financial Aid shall be responsible for the evaluation and screening of all scholarship applicants.  Final authority for selection of scholarship recipient lies with the Accounting Department of the School of Business in accordance with established policy at Texas Wesleyan.

SIRATT:

Full-time Business majors.  Incoming freshman candidates will be considered based upon high school GPA, class ranking, SAT/ACT performance, co-curricular activities and leadership potential.  Transfer or returning students will be considered based upon their maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and whose co-curricular activities and leadership potential merit support.  Preference will be given to students from Grandview, Texas and from Johnson County, Texas.  Beyond these considerations, there are no geographic or other restrictions placed on the awarding of scholarships.  The office of Financial Aid shall be responsible for screening and evaluating all applicants.  Recommendations shall be forwarded to the School of Business.  Final authority for selection of scholarship recipients lies with the Dean of the School of Business who will act in accordance with established University policies and accrediting association standards.  The donors and/ or members of the donors families shall have the opportunity to participate  in the selection of recipients and all efforts will be made to carryout the wishes of the donors in selecting students to receive the scholarship.  The scholarship will not be left unassigned if a match to the donor’s preferences cannot be made.

SOUTHWESTERN BELL:

Recipients must be minority students, who are majoring in business.  In a memo dated 11/30/88, it was suggested that the scholarships be for one-half tuition with the other half of tuition and fees coming from other grants and financial aid.  But the suggestion was not meant to restrict the Director of Financial Aid in awarding the scholarships.

HARRIET TUBMAN:

The scholarship MAY cover the full cost of tuition, fees, books and normal living expenses (room and board).  Recipients must meet all the normal admission requirements of  Texas Wesleyan and must be an African American, enrolled full-time (12 hours min.), must maintain at least a 2.8 GPA in overall coursework.  The scholarship will be suspended in any semester when the student fails to maintain a GPA of 2.8.  Student must again go through the application process for reconsideration.  Recipient must major in banking, business, management, accounting, finance, economics, or related fields and must actively pursue employment opportunities in Tarrant Co. upon completion of a baccalaureate degree.  The application process is followed only when interest income is sufficient to support the full cost of education as outlined above.  Once awarded, and as long as GPA guidelines are maintained, the student receives the scholarship until graduation.

WEST:

Undergraduate recipient must be a full-time student; graduate students need to be full-time but should be attaining a masters or higher degree.  Awards should be made on a semester by semester basis to equal the cost of tuition, books, and supplies.  For undergraduate students, the cost of on-campus room and board would be covered if the student resides on campus.  Each graduate student should receive an award on a semester by semester basis to equal the cost of tuition, books, and supplies.  The student shall have obtained an overall 3.0 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale for studies prior to selection, and must maintain a 3.0 or better.  The student must be a citizen of the United States. PREFERENCE will be given to residents of Tarrant County, Texas, and to students in the School of Business.  The Board may consider the financial need of the prospective student/ recipient.  Any one or more of the foregoing grant criteria requirements, save and except citizenship of the United States, may be waived by the Board (or its designated committee) at any time and from time to time as the Board (or its designated committee)  may determine, in their sole discretion.
