Mr. Fontanez believes the class sizes at Texas Wesleyan mesh well with his teaching style. “I prefer the one-on-one interaction with students that is possible in a smaller group. I have been in classes as a student in large auditoriums with 100 other people. You tend to get lost in the crowd that way and it’s a challenge to get personal time with the teacher. In my classes, I hope to engage students in discussion and make the classes interactive, like a conversation. I try to create a classroom environment where students can feel free to bring up concerns and their point of view.”

Teaching at Texas Wesleyan since 2008, Mr. Fontanez’s classes have included computer networks, software engineering, JAVA, and other special topics. “I try to make the class content simple and focus on the basics because if you don’t really understand the basics, you’re lost.” He offers detailed syllabuses in his classes so students can focus on relevant topics and know what to expect. “It’s a technical field, so students need to study to do well.”
