“Our role at the University is to help our students and their families address the financial aspects of attending school. Often when they come in, they are anxious about the process because they do not know what options or opportunities are available to them."

"They just know that they need some assistance to meet their expenses. We help them to determine the kind of assistance they need and the programs and options that are available to them."

“The heart of our department is service. To our students and to their families. We want to provide the most efficient service and information to everyone who visits our department, whether they are students, their families or prospective students who are trying to decide whether Texas Wesleyan is the right university for them and, frankly, whether they can afford to attend our school."

“Our core value is that each person is an individual and each student’s story is different. And that each one deserves to be treated as such. We want to be sure that they know that they are welcome to come by the office whether they have a specific question about their financial aid package or whether they just want information and advice on their options. It’s a real open door policy.”

“They usually are very relieved when they see how much information is available and how many different ways we can help them with their needs. Then the anxiousness melts away and we can all focus on selecting and pursuing the right solutions. And it usually ends successfully. We help students from all three campuses to secure more than $50 million in financial aid a year. ”

“The volume of students and families that we serve is high. More than 87 percent of our students receive some kind of financial aid. So we have a fairly steady stream of people through our doors. But, fortunately, we are well prepared to handle that amount of traffic. We have six counselors available. Each counselor has been in this situation as a college student or as a parent of a student. And each one shares my philosophy of a customer-centered approach and my personal commitment to efficient and friendly service. So we are able to provide information and assistance in a timely manner and to keep the workload flowing smoothly without sacrificing the personal attention and time that each one deserves. ”
