In the seven years that Ms. Ikens has worked at Texas Wesleyan, she has witnessed a lot of improvements. “Buildings are better, there’s additional activities for students, and the environment and the quality of the faculty and staff are improved.”
In charge of the cheerleaders, dance team, mascots, and Blu Cru, Ms. Ikens keeps busy attending at-home sporting events. When she began, the cheerleading team and mascots were a walk-on squad and not recognized, but for the last five years, the team has qualified for nationals. “They’ve done really well and I’m very proud of them.”
Ms. Ikens also is the advisor for the gymnastics center, teaches a zumba class at the fitness center, and regularly attends Polytechnic Heights’ community events. She is proud of the support her groups have established among the community, alumni, faculty, and staff. “They’ve established a positive reputation in the community and on campus, which is great.”
“I say ‘go Rams!’ a lot. I always tell my kids to do their best to represent the school honestly and respectfully.”
