About UBMS

Who UBMS Is

UBMS serves 50 students each project year. Two-thirds of the participants must meet low-income and first generation eligibility requirements (neither of whose parents have completed a four-year degree). The remaining one-third must be either low-income or first generation. Program participants must also demonstrate an academic need based on Department of Education eligibility requirements.

Current 9th & 10th grade students are encouraged to apply for program selection by completing the UBMS application packet. After a review of all received applications, eligible students and their parents will be contacted and an interview will be scheduled.

UBMS Program Goals
  • To instill UBMS students with a positive attitude toward learning and postsecondary education
  • To expose UBMS students to various careers in math and science
  • To develop quantitative and analytical skills and to increase the students’ knowledge of technological resources
  • To increase the UBMS students’ ability to relate to their peer group by development of a sense of personal worth
  • To expose the UBMS students to new academic, social, and cultural learning experiences.

The Upward Bound Program welcomes and encourages participation regardless of race, national origin, gender, or disability (GEPA Section 427)

Federal TRIO Programs

The Federal TRIO Programs are educational opportunity outreach programs designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The TRIO Programs were originally established by the federal government in 1965 to ensure equal educational opportunity for all Americans, regardless of race, ethnic background, or economic circumstance. These programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. TRIO Programs help students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to achieve higher education.
