11.10.2016 | By: Janna McKinley

At 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, Dr. Ilka V. Araújo and José Cubela present a concert of duo-piano repertory. The recital will be played on the twin Baldwin pianos graciously donated by longtime Friend of Wesleyan Music Patricia Barr, with music by Arensky, Milhaud, Infante and Gershwin.

At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, see the Wind Ensemble, conducted by new head of instrumental studies Dr. Paul Sikes and featuring student conductors Drenda Burk, Michael Baños and Tyler Simpson, perform such varied repertory as Holst's Second Suite in F for Military Band, Salvation is Created by Russian composer Pavel Tchesnokov, music based on Dante's Divine Comedy, and music from popular soundtracks. This genre-switching concert will surely be a delight to the ear!

At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, the Wesleyan Singers take the stage. The combined Women's, Men's and Chamber Choruses, conducted by Dr. Jerome M. Bierschenk and Allison Whetsel Ward, feature music in Estonian, Latin, Portuguese and Palaver, as well as English and American favorites.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, the newly created Percussion Ensemble, directed by Dr. Mai Hessel, will end the week with a lively percussion recital featuring every kind of percussion one can imagine, from lighters to xylophone.

All events are in Nicholas Martin Hall and are free and open to the public. For more information on any of the events listed here or on any of the remaining upcoming events for the semester, please contact the Department of Music at (817) 531-4992 or music@txwes.edu.
