Head shot

Kay Colley, Ph.D., associate professor and mass communication department chair was awarded a $300 grant from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). She was one of three recipients of the AEJMC Newspaper & Online News Division’s 2018-2019 Research and Teaching Grants Program for her proposal “Integrating New Concepts into a Yearly Live Event/Live Coverage of a Crisis.”

About the Yearly Live Event

Texas Wesleyan’s annual live event involves mass communication and criminal justice students. They learn how to respond to and cover a simulated crisis on campus in an environment that prepares them for a real crisis should they encounter one. The grant will be used to convert websites used in the event from free versions to paid versions, giving students more features than they would otherwise have. The websites allow students to practice writing and posting news stories and press releases.

According to Colley’s proposal, the grant “would support integrating new concepts into a yearly live event/live coverage of a crisis that involves students in Integrated Media Reporting, Digital Design and Editing, Practicum, Mobile Production and Public Relations Campaigns and Programs working with criminal justice and sociology students.”
