Save the date for Rosângela Sebba in concert
Dr. Rosângela Sebba will present a masterclass about piano performance on at 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9 at 3:00 p.m., then provide a practical demonstration of her skills in recital at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 10. Both the master class and the recital will take place in Martin Hall, and both are free and open to the public.
Rosângela Yazbec Sebba is Professor of Piano at Mississippi State University, where she coordinates the piano area for the Department of Music and the Community Music School. She teaches applied lessons, piano literature, theory and ear training and coordinates all the adjunct keyboard faculty. Her college and pre-college students have received numerous awards and honors for their performance and presentations.
Sebba performances include a wide-ranging repertoire from solo to chamber and four-hands works. Her album Eight Sonatinas and the Sonata for Piano Solo by M. Camargo Guarnieri was released in 2010, and it has been featured at David Dubal’s classical piano program, The Piano Matters at WWFM, and his lecture at the Cervantes Institute, which was broadcasted live on WQXR, both New York City radio stations. As a committed proponent of contemporary music, in 2017 Dr. Sebba released a chamber music CD on the Centaur Label with works by Stravinsky and Bill Douglas, including premières of a trio for piano, bassoon and clarinet and a quartet for piano, bassoon, clarinet and violin by Shandy Phillips. Besides being the principal pianist of the Starkville/MSU Symphony Orchestra, she has appeared as a soloist with other orchestras in Brazil and United States and is a reviewer for the American Music Teacher Magazine.
Sebba is an active member of local and state music teacher organizations, and currently serves as the Golden Triangle Music Forum Secretary and District Audition Chair for Pre-College Evaluations of the Mississippi Music Teachers Association. She is currently in the Mississippi Arts Commission Artist Roster and was a Fellow in 2015. In 2013, Rosângela Sebba was recognized as a Steinway Artist.
As a sought-after collaborative pianist, she has performed in recitals and masterclasses of renowned artists such as Emerson String Quartet, Leontine Price, Øystein Baadsvik, Simon Estes and Joseph Robinson. She has given recitals, master classes, lectures and lecture-recitals in the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Portugal, Costa Rica, England, Spain and Taiwan including national and international conferences such as, the College Music Society, International Villa-Lobos Conference, London International Piano Symposium, LIII Música en Compostela, International Double Reed Society and National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors.
