Vocalist Nereida García, soprano, along with collaborative pianist Keith Critcher, will present a vocal recital of beautiful music guaranteed to move and delight in Nicholas Martin Hall on Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to join us for this free concert in Martin Hall.
Nereida García, Mexican-American soprano, has sung on a number of stages in the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Austria and the Czech Republic. Her most recent performances include singing as the soprano soloist in the Brahms Requiem with the University of North Texas A Cappella Choir, and in Poulenc’s Gloria with the Grand Chorus, Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Jerry McCoy. Prior to these engagements, Miss García made her return to Mexico representing her family's home state at the 2014 International Festival of Tamaulipas.
Just a month before, she performed the role of Nedda in the UNT Opera Theater production of I Pagliacci; her other operatic roles include Cio Cio San in Madama Butterfly, Mimì in La bohème, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette, Contessa Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, the title role in Massenet’s Cendrillon and Mary Warren in The Crucible. Miss García has sung for Opera in the Heights and The Living Opera, was an apprentice artist for the Sarasota Opera and Artist in Residence for the Amarillo Opera. She has placed as a finalist for the Dallas Opera Guild and Lois Alba Aria competitions and performs annually for the World Affairs Council of Houston Language Symposia, to encourage foreign language endeavors by Houston-area students, as well as other concerts in support of educational funding. She has performed for Former President George H. W. Bush, Sujiro Seam (Consulate General of France) and Fabrizio Nava (former Consulate General of Italy).
Miss García is a professor at Texas A&M University-Commerce Music Department as an Adjunct Instructor of Music in Voice and Diction. She maintains a private voice studio in Richardson, Texas where she is presently accepting new students of all levels.
