Theatre major selected for 10-week summer internship at Texas theatres
Last week at a 2018 Annual Conference, Texas Nonprofit Theatres, Inc. had the great pleasure of announcing the four interns selected to participate in TNT's Summer Internship Program. These selected interns will spend 10 weeks of their summer working at two different theatres in five week intervals.
Among these selected students was Theatre Wesleyan's own Torris Curry. Curry will be a paid intern at both The Point Theatre (Ingram, Texas) and Fredericksburg Theater Company (Fredericksburg, Texas).
Texas Nonprofit Theatres, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the theatres of Texas and the communities they serve. TNT, with the support of the Texas Commission on the Arts, sponsors internships to address the needs of theatres for qualified assistance, and the need of students for information about theatre careers and for job opportunities in the field.
The goal of the internship program is to expose students to the theatre profession by:
- providing firsthand experience working with and in theatres;
- giving an overview of current issues in the profession;
- facilitating job opportunities through contacts made in the Texas theatre community.
Torris Curry is a junior theatre major. Previous Theatre Wesleyan credits include Important Hats (Jimmy/Butterfly), Urinetown: The Musical (Robby The Stockfish), and Spring Awakening (Dance Captain). Previous regional stage credits include All Shook Up (Ensemble), North Pole Express (Eddie), and You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown! (Choreographer). Torris is a member of Alpha Psi Omega, Tau Sigma, and is the captain of the Texas Wesleyan Gold Line dance team. He is a recipient of the Dean’s List Award. Torris will be featured in the upcoming production of OKLAHOMA! at the Scott Theatre.
