Theatre Wesleyan’s production of the student-written play In & Between received 14 awards of excellence from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival when it was presented Oct. 25 at the Texas I State Festival on the Tarrant County College Southeast Campus.

The production of In & Between, directed by Professor of Theatre Connie Whitt-Lambert, received the prestigious Directors’ Choice Award for best production of the festival, voted on by the seven directors with productions at the event. Playwright Logan Rodgers received the Award for Excellence in Playwriting.

Actors Kaila Saffle, Jeremy Jackson, and Jacob Myers were each cited for their performances and nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Auditions, which will be held at the regional festival in February. Also receiving Awards for Excellence in their individual fields were stage manager Kelsey Manuel, costume designer Kaila Saffle, properties/scenic designer Heather O’Donnell and lighting designer Jonathan Jones.

Special Certificates of Excellence were also given to the Wesleyan members of the technical honor crew Kelsey Manuel, Heather O’Donnell, Jorge Flores and Chris Willmer. Associate Professor of Theatre Bryan Stevenson, who also served as the Festival lighting designer, received a special award for Excellence in Festival Lighting. Texas Wesleyan also was cited for its support of new work.

As the directors’ choice for the Texas I State Festival, In & Between is now being considered for presentation at the Region 6 Festival at Angelo State University in February.

Productions from throughout the region are presented during the fall semester at colleges and universities in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, Arkansas and Missouri. From those productions, a few will be invited to perform at the regional festival.
