Theatre major Torris Curry plays Rio Rita in Theatre Wesleyan's upcoming production of The Hostage by Brendan Behan, opening on Thursday, Nov. 1.

This unique musical and theatrical experience tells the story of a man in the Irish Republican Army who is to be hanged, and a British soldier held hostage by a “band” of characters in a Dublin lodging house. This production contains some adult language, loud sound effects (including gunshots and explosions), as well as simulated smoking.

Talk about learning an accent in the show: Learning the Irish accent has been tough for me. Finding all the substitutions and switching isn’t as easy as it seems and takes a lot of outside preparation.

Will you be playing an instrument in the show?: I’m not playing an instrument but I am running in heels, so that’s a new skill.

Your favorite song in the show: "Here and Queer"

Why audiences will enjoy the show: The spastic and bombastic lifestyle of everyone that live in the [boarding] house will make you appreciate your calm household.
