History program hosts New Deal Symposium

06.09.2019 | By: Christopher Ohan

Texas Wesleyan played host to the Seventh Annual New Deal Symposium on Saturday, June 8.

Sponsored by the Texas Wesleyan history program and the East Texas Historical Association, the day was opened by Texas Wesleyan Provost Allen Henderson and Scott Sosebee, executive director of the East Texas Historical Association.

The New Deal of the 1930s had a profound and long-lasting effect on the United States. Presentations at the conference covered a diverse array of subjects ranging from prohibition in Texas to the art of the New Deal. The symposium included two roundtable discussions on the New Deal in Texas and was attended by over 50 regional scholars.

Texas Wesleyan's own Political Scientist and Pre-Law Advisor, Dr. Michelle Payne, delivered a presentation entitled "The Art of the New Deal: Apple Harvest Celebration."
