Doctoral students recognized at regional conference

Texas Wesleyan doctoral students Carolyn Ikens, Head Coach Texas Wesleyan Cheer & ASE instructor, and Sharon Manson, Educational Programs Manager UNTHSC, were recently recognized with the Dean’s Award for Exceptional Graduate Student Research at the Southwest Educational Research Association’s annual conference in New Orleans, La.

Their papers, An Investigation of the Contributing Factors to the Increasing Number of Texas Students Required to take Remedial Classes for College Admission and Understanding the Effects of Gamification on Student Engagement and Motivation, were also presented in smaller sessions as part of the three-day conference focused on research topics in education. In addition, Manson was selected to represent Texas Wesleyan as the 2017 graduate student campus representative.

Ikens and Manson joined 15 other Texas Wesleyan doctoral cohort and colleagues in attending and presenting papers at the conference.

The Texas Wesleyan doctoral students who attended the conference were Hannah Anthony, Wei Sun, Jasna Rather, Cheng Cheng Liu, Dimitria Campbell, Deleceia McGee joined Dr. Celia Wilson, Associate Professor of Education and SERA Member-At-Large.
