Andre’a Davis ’13 and Shannon Jordan, a visiting assistant professor of exercise science, were included in a Wall Street Journal video about cardiac rehabilitation. Filmed in Dallas, the segment talked about the importance of getting patients up to speed for their active lifestyles or physically demanding jobs.
Hospitals are giving patients customized, rigorous workouts after heart surgery to increase the patient’s fitness level and confidence. The featured patient happened to be a scuba diver, so Pam Rast, professor and chair of kinesiology and director of the athletic training program, was consulted on the protocol.
In the photo above, Davis is seen (on the right) collecting data on the patient, and Jordan is the one working on the computer. Davis studied kinesiology and played basketball for Texas Wesleyan.
“This is the kind of work we are training out exercise science students to do,” Rast said. "Our students are working in hospitals, rehab centers and post-rehab fitness centers, helping patients increase their level of fitness and improve their activities of daily living."
