Your Clinical Experience

It's important to know what the next 28 months of your life could look like. Take a minute to look at what rotations you'll be doing and the requirements for the program.

Clinical Rotations

CRNA students must participate in 650 cases spread out over many different specialties, types of anesthetics and patient demographics. Rotations are usually one-to-two months long and usually cover the following areas:

  • Pediatrics
  • Obstetrics
  • Cardiac (open heart) and neuro surgery
  • Regional anesthesia
  • Rural practice

If a primary clinical hospital does not do one or more of these things, you will be assigned a rotation at a facility that provides the service. Even if a facility does have every service, it can be beneficial to see the difference in alternative practice settings.

Texas Wesleyan prefers that no more than four out of 16 months are performed away from the primary facility.

Will I meet all my case requirements?

Not only will you meet your case requirements, you'll exceed them.

Our CRNA students see anywhere from 700-1,000 cases during the clinical phase of the program.

If there's a certain kind of experience you're looking to gain, don't worry — you'll have a chance to work with any and everything that interests you within the field of nurse anesthesia during your 16-month clinical rotation.

What travel requirements are there?

Some rotations are out of town or out of state and incur travel and lodging expenses.

Some out-of-state rotations require the student to apply for an additional state license.
