Scholarship Policy & Rules

There are a few important things to know about your Texas Wesleyan institutional scholarship. See the policy below and contact the Office of Financial Aid with any questions you may have.

Failure to maintain full-time status

1st Semester: Student signs up for 12 or more hours and receives a scholarship. If the student drops below 12 hours after the census date, they are required to complete 24 hours by the end of their second semester.

2nd Semester: Student signs up for 12 or more hours and receives their scholarships. The student does not complete and pass 24 hours by the end of this semester. Students can use summer semesters to get to the required 24 hours before the 3rd semester starts.

3rd Semester: Student signs up for 12 or more hours and receives their scholarship. The student did not complete 24 hours within the first two semesters. The student is placed on scholarship probation and has to complete 12 hours by the end of the third semester.

4th Semester: Student does not complete 12 hours in their third semester. The scholarship is suspended.

Failure to maintain scholarship's GPA requirement

See the process followed for a student that does not meet the GPA requirements stated in their scholarship package.

  • 1st semester: Student is awarded a TXWES scholarship based on grades and/or test scores.
  • 2nd semester: Student does not meet the cumulative GPA requirement at the end of semester 1 and goes on probation. A ‘Financial Aid Hold’ is placed on student account until student meets with the Academic Success Center.
  • 3rd semester: Student again does not meet the cumulative GPA requirement at the end of semester 2, the scholarship is suspended with the option to appeal. A ‘Financial Aid Hold’ is placed on student account until student meets with the Academic Success Center.
  • 4th semester: If, after a successful appeal, a student again fails to meet the cumulative GPA requirement, the scholarship is suspended with no option to appeal.

If a student reestablishes the cumulative GPA requirement at any point during the timeframe outlined above, then the student will be considered in good standing.

Freshman students have up to 4 years of eligibility from their first semester at TXWES, including semesters where their scholarship is suspended. Transfer students have up to 3 years of eligibility from their first semester at TXWES, including semesters where the scholarship is suspended.
