Leading With Purpose: Igniting Impact for the Next 135 Years

For 135 years, Texas Wesleyan University has remained steadfast in its mission to transform lives through the power of education. Our history is rooted in faith and belief in the potential of every student who walks across our campus. As we look toward the future, our new strategic plan, Igniting Impact, reflects both who we are and who we are called to become.

Strategic planning at Texas Wesleyan was never intended to be a top-down process. It was purposefully designed to elevate our culture of connection, compassion, commitment and courage; the values that define our RAMily. Through listening sessions, multiple surveys, collaborative workgroups and open dialogue, faculty, staff, trustees, students, alumni and community partners shaped our vision for the future. Most importantly, inviting our students to join our effort was one of the most transformative aspects of our planning. Approximately 75 students participated in feedback sessions, offering candid insight about their aspirations, challenges and dreams of purpose. Their perspectives ensured our plan is grounded not only in institutional priorities, but in the lived experiences of those we serve.

The result is a community-driven plan centered on three priorities: Strategic Growth, Transformative Learning and Intentional Connection.

Elevating a Culture of Connection

Connection has always been our distinguishing strength. At Texas Wesleyan, students are known by name, supported by mentors and surrounded by a community that believes in their success. This planning process deepened that culture by inviting broad participation and shared ownership. When people are heard, they invest. When they are empowered, they lead.

Connection is not merely relational; it is strategic. It informs how we recruit and retain students, how we build partnerships in Fort Worth and beyond and how we steward resources to ensure sustainability for generations to come.

Compassion in Action

Compassion at Texas Wesleyan is more than a value. It is a daily practice. It shows up in the classroom, in advising conversations and in our engagement across the community. Throughout this planning effort, we asked: How do we ensure that every decision ultimately strengthens opportunity for our students?

Our focus on Transformative Learning reflects this commitment. We are investing in innovative academic programs, experiential learning and holistic student support systems that prepare graduates not only for careers, but for meaningful lives of leadership and service. The signature Wesleyan experience focuses on how we connect to students from the moment they inquire to beyond graduation as a forever alumnus.

Commitment to Purposeful Growth

Growth must be intentional and mission-aligned. Our Strategic Growth priority challenges us to expand thoughtfully by enhancing enrollment, strengthening financial sustainability and broadening our reach while preserving the personal experience that defines Texas Wesleyan.

This is growth anchored in purpose. It is not about becoming larger, but stronger in our ability to serve students and community with excellence.

Courage to Envision What Is Possible

Courage calls us to imagine what does not yet exist and to build it together. It invites innovation in curriculum, athletics, technology, and partnerships. It challenges us to remove barriers, rethink systems, and pursue excellence with boldness.

Leadership, at its best, empowers others and then steps aside. When leaders provide clarity of vision and trust their community, ownership flourishes. Individuals begin to identify challenges, design bold solutions, and take responsibility for moving vision into action. That is the spirit of Igniting Impact. This plan belongs to our campus community because it was shaped by our campus community, including the students whose voices reminded us that purpose remains at the heart of our mission.

As we enter our next chapter, Intentional Connection ensures that our relationships with students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff and community partners remain strong. The strength of Texas Wesleyan has always been its people. Our future is centered around cultivating relationships with authenticity and shared responsibility that together we transform lives, build a stronger community and expanding economic possibilities in Fort Worth.

The strategic planning process affirmed what we have long believed: when a community unites around shared values and a shared vision, extraordinary outcomes follow. Together, our campus community continues to position Texas Wesleyan as an institution that leads with clarity, compassion and courage ensuring that the transformative power of education continues to change lives for the next 135 years and beyond.

Now, the plan moves from page to practice. Each of us has a role to play. Each of us has influence. When we empower one another, lean into our values and act with courage, we do more than implement a strategy. We shape purpose and legacy.
