Stephen Madigan

The American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA) recently honored Dr. Stephen Madigan with their Distinguished Award for Innovative Practice in couple and Family Therapy Theory and Practice.

Stephen apprenticed (up close) with David Epston and Michael White for many years. He holds an MSW as well as an MSc and PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy.  In 1992, he opened the Vancouver School for Narrative Therapy through Yaletown Family Therapy, in Vancouver, Canada - as the first Narrative Therapy training site in the Northern Hemisphere.

The American Psychological Association (APA) published his latest book entitled Narrative Therapy – Theory and Practice, along with a six-part live session DVD series of his therapy work.

Stephen hosts the annual Therapeutic Conversations conferences, and currently teaches a wide range of narrative therapy training workshops worldwide.

Stephen is the father of 16-year-old twin daughters and is a "retired" member of Canada’s National Ultimate Frisbee Team.
