Join the Artes de la Rosa Cultural Center for the Arts at 7 p.m. on Oct. 6 in Martin Hall for a Ballet Folklorico showcase. This spectacle of traditional cultural dance emphasizes local folk culture with elaborately choreographed ballet characteristics. Each region in Mexico, the Southwestern U.S. and Central America is known for a variety of locally characteristic dances.
Artes de la Rosa is a non-profit organization founded in 2000 to promote preserve and present Latino arts, culture, history and lives in North Texas. It is nationally recognized for its youth educational program, the Artes Academy, which has won awards from the Kennedy Center and the White House, among others.
The organization utilizes the arts as a means and an end to accomplishing its mission. Through its youth program, it builds self-confidence and communications skills in youth ages 8-18, while instilling in them a knowledge and appreciation for the arts. Its theater company and gallery serve as a gateway into the history, culture, arts and lives of the Latino community.
