Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

The Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) proposed four outcomes for the SoTL:

  • Fostering significant and long-lasting student learning
  • Enhancing the practice and profession of teaching
  • Bringing faculty’s work as teachers the recognition and prestige afforded to other forms of scholarly work
  • Making teaching methods public, open to critical evaluation, and usable by others
