Modifications to BCBS medical benefits begin April 1

Effective with the April 1, 2014 renewal, there are plan modifications to the medical/prescription co-payments and deductibles for BlueCross and BlueShield of Texas benefits. 

The key changes include:

  1. Medical deductibles will increase to $2,500 (individual) & $5,000 (family). Deductible credit will be applied to the new plan year. Individuals who have met some or all of your $2,000.00 deductible already this calendar year will have an additional $500 to meet in 2014. 
  2. Primary care physician co-payments will increase to $30/visit with the specialist physician co-payments remaining the same at $50/visit.
  3. Prescription co-payments will increase for generic medications for Tier 1 to $20.00 and Tier 2 will increase to $40.00. The Tier 3 prescription co-payment will remain the same.
  4. Medical co-payments will be applied to out-of-pocket maximums (prescription co-payments will not be applied).

Insurance cards were mailed on Monday, March 24 to participants’ homes. If you do not receive your card by April 11, please notify Sara DeLeon, benefits specialist by email,, to request a replacement card.
