Introducing a new way to communicate at Texas Wesleyan

05.04.2016 | By: Texas Wesleyan University
Cisco Jabber Instant Messaging service

So, you have a quick question for your colleague. What are your options?

1. Yelling

(you yell) + (colleague yells back) + (supervisor yells at both of you) = Not Good!

2. Email

They already have 1,000 unread emails in their inbox but, if you're feeling lucky, send away!

3. Phone Call

A good option, but phone calls can be disruptive if your colleague happens to be meeting with a student or putting the final touches on their doctoral dissertation.

4. Walk down to their office

You probably like to run marathons too. Save the walk for your lunch break and skip to option #5.

5. IM Them

Ah...the sweet spot! Instant Messaging allows you to see if your colleague is online, and then send them an instant text message or even make that phone call with a quick click. It's like text messaging for work, but better.

Cisco Jabber is a new Instant Messaging and collaboration service coming to University employees June 1. The Information Technology department will have more information for you coming soon.
