Blackboard upgrade Summer 2018
IT Academic Services at Texas Wesleyan is working with Blackboard (Bb) Managed Hosting in order to upgrade its Learning Management System (LMS) environment to the Q4 2017 release of Blackboard Learn 9.1.
When will this upgrade happen?
Texas Wesleyan’s Blackboard environment will be unavailable to all users during the following maintenance window:
9 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday, July 7 - 9 a.m. (CDT) on Sunday, July 8
We apologize for any inconvenience. Please make particular note of this maintenance window if your courses are active during this period.
Blackboard regularly releases upgraded versions of the Bb Learn 9.1 learning management system each year. These upgrades consist of bug fixes as well as feature enhancements.
Upgrades are a part of almost every software program, the intention of which is to provide increased security and improved functionality. Periodic upgrades also ensure that a fully supported version of an application and related features are in use. With this in mind, upgrading is less a matter of if, but when.
What does this upgrade mean for faculty?
Core tool functionality within Blackboard Learn 9.1 remains largely unchanged, though faculty will benefit from improved features new to the Q4 2016, Q2 2017, and Q4 2017 releases as well as fixes to known issues in Q2 2016. For a full list of Blackboard release notes describing feature enhancements and maintenance items, please refer to this link.
What does this upgrade mean for Students?
There will be a few minor cosmetic and functional changes to certain tools, but students should be able to move seamlessly from version 9.1 Q2 2016 without training.
Any users experiencing technical problems with Blackboard (as well as general service disruptions or performance issues) are encouraged to report these issues to the Service Desk at 817-531-4428.
