Theatre Wesleyan Presents The Laramie Project Nov. 10 through Nov. 20

Theatre Wesleyan will present The Laramie Project by Moisés Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater, Nov. 10 to Nov. 20, at the Thad Smotherman Theatre in the Law Sone Fine Arts Building, located at the corner of Binkley St. and Avenue E. The play is directed by Jeremy Jackson, senior theatre major. Thursday through Saturday performances will be held at 7:30 p.m., with one Sunday performance at 2 p.m. on Nov. 20.

Hailed by Time as one of the “Top Ten Plays of the Year 2000,” The Laramie Project is a thought provoking, critically acclaimed and emotionally riveting theatre experience of a small town at the epicenter of an incomprehensible crime.

The Laramie Project began in November 1998, one month after the brutal beating and death of gay college student Matthew Shepard on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyo. Kaufman and members of his theatre group conducted interviews with over 200 Laramie residents to document the ways the town’s citizens responded to a vicious crime, reacted to the intense global media coverage and reflected on the attitudes and actions that can cultivate both hatred and healing.

The Laramie Project features a cast of 16 Texas Wesleyan theatre majors, including David Vaughn, Michael Rudd, Joshua Sherman, Parker Fitzgerald, Spencer Baker, Ben Tatner, Seth Brech, Allen Dean, Rachel Benham, Emily Newcomb, Elizabeth Parker, Suzanne Fordering, Brittany Adelstein, Kristi Taylor, Jessica LaVilla and Brittani Evans.

Tickets are $8 for general admission, $6 for all Wesleyan faculty and staff, and $4 for all students with ID. Ticket sales begin Tuesday, Nov. 8. The box office will be open Tuesdays to Fridays, 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., and one hour before curtain on show days. Seating is limited therefore reservations are highly recommended. For reservations please call 817-531-4211.

This production is recommended for mature audiences.
