About Dr. Linda Carroll

The best part of Dr. Carroll’s job is helping first generation college students, like herself. “I can help them get through any obstacles or pitfalls of being a first generation college student and encourage them. It’s very gratifying to see any student’s success.”

A Texas Wesleyan faculty member for 15 years, Dr. Carroll believes her reputation is that she’s hard, but fair in the classroom. “I love to challenge my students to reach their full potential, for the joy I get is invaluable when I see their eyes light up when they grasp a concept or when they receive a paper back that proves their work was worth the effort. I would not trade my job for any position, regardless of the income.

Her aim is to make students into critical thinkers and life-long learners. “I want them to know that learning is fun, it is exciting to think about new ideas, and they should enjoy the experience. I hope my classroom stimulates that kind of environment where students can analyze ideas, discarding the worthless ideas and embracing ideas that have value to them.”

She enjoys all the writing classes she teaches, but especially Southern Literature. “Southern Literature is part of my heritage, and speaks to my soul.”
