Support Thanksgiving food drive benefiting the Tarrant Area Food Bank
Mortar Board and SGA have teamed up to start a Thanksgiving food drive for the Tarrant Area Food Bank. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate. Supporters can drop off their boxed or canned food donations in the Office of Student Life.
Here is a list of the most requested items:
- Canned Meats (Tuna, Chicken, Ham, etc.)
- Peanut Butter (no glass jars)
- Boxed Pastas
- Boxed or canned soup
- Canned Fruit
- Canned Vegetables
- Dried Beans
- Boxed or canned juice
“This is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community. I think most of us take for granted the amount of affordable and easily accessible food we have on campus. Last month, we participated in GSA’s Night of Homelessness, which benefited The Promise House. The Thanksgiving Food Drive for the TAFB further shows how much our student organizations are dedicated to serving the community,” Anthony Guzman, the Secretary of Mortar Board, said.
Although food donations are being accepted on campus, monetary donations will also be accepted through the Tarrant Area Food Bank website. For every $1 that is donated, the TAFB can provide up to 5 meals to hungry children and families in Tarrant County. The Tarrant Area Food Bank was able to provide over 23 million meals during the 2015 fiscal year.
Any donation is encouraged, as every little bit helps. The food drive will last until Wednesday, Nov. 25th at noon.
