5 study tips for test taking from the ASC

Are you stressed about studying for your first round of tests?
Are you not sure where to begin?
There are different ways to study based on the format of test you are taking. Not sure what kind of test you are having? Check your syllabus or ask your professor. The ASC tutors recommend beginning your preparation process at least a week before the test.
Five tips for studying for a test:
- Create summary notes that pull together information from your lectures and homework for essay tests.
- Predict and write test questions using your class notes. Then practice answering the questions.
- Create flash cards for studying terms, concepts, formulas and dates. This is helpful for multiple choice tests.
- Work thru study guides, if provided, with a study partner. Take turns quizzing each other.
- Work practice problems or equations for math or science tests.
No matter how you are studying, it is important to eat, sleep and exercise to keep yourself healthy. Take breaks to let your mind recharge so you can process information properly. For more assistance with test taking, visit the Academic Success Center.
