Esports will be the hot topic for this year’s Marjorie Herrera-Lewis Endowed Speaker Series at 12:30 p.m. on April 18 in the Andrews Ballroom when Texas Wesleyan presents “Esports Content Creators Unplugged.”
“We are so excited to be able to host a panel of esports gurus this year for the Marjorie Herrera-Lewis Endowed Speaker Series,” said Dr. Kay L. Colley, mass communication department chair.
The panel presentation will be moderated by Texas Wesleyan’s own Esports and Gaming Director Eugene Frier.
The speaker series this year goes beyond the traditional sports world to explore the world of esports and gaming with three industry panelists: Trey Yates, Justin Rojas and Rita Landells.
Trey Yates is an avid editor, avid creator, and a (formerly avid) gamer who doesn't have the time to play anything anymore. Yates’ career spans across esports and influencer content creation. He is currently working with Jacksepticeye and other creators on comedy-centric content.
Justin Rojas is co-founder and co-owner of Nishi Fest, Play!TCG and Studio Nano. With over 15 years of experience in event production, business development, and social strategy, Rojas specializes in entertainment, particularly anime, gaming, and esports. As co-founder of Play!TCG and Nishi Fest, he innovates client acquisition and production processes, collaborating with industry leaders like Bandai Card Games and Toei Animation. Formerly VP of events at OpTic Gaming and director of social strategy at Funimation, Rojas brings a comprehensive understanding of the intersection of entertainment and business. In addition to his behind-the-scenes expertise, he is also a seasoned live-event host and on-screen talent.
Rita B Landells is an entertainment marketer specializing in media and gaming. With over 13 years of experience, she has collaborated with renowned brands including CBS Television, ABC/Disney, iHeartMedia, Team Envy, OpTic Gaming, and Complexity Gaming. Leading innovative marketing campaigns and forging strategic brand partnerships, she is driven by a passion for crafting compelling stories that help brands flourish.
