The , a day-long competition and concluding concert for high school music students and supporters, will take place Saturday, May 10. Professional jazz baritone saxophone player and flutist Denis Diblasio, director of the jazz program at Rowan University in New Jersey, will be the featured solo artist.
During the day, some twenty high school jazz bands from across Texas will participate in a tightly-contested performance competitions, adjudicated by area jazz professionals. The competition will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Tarrant County College South Campus (TCC South.)
That evening, a concluding concert and awards ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Martin Hall. Diblasio will appear as the featured soloist in that concert, along with jazz ensembles from Texas Wesleyan and TCC South and the winning high school bands from last year’s festival.
Festival coordinators are Lou Carfa, John Fisher and Adrian Bumgarner from Texas Wesleyan, and Rick Stitzel from TCC South.
The evening event at Texas Wesleyan is open to the public. A general admission fee of $5 will be charged.
