Theatre Wesleyan to host regional premiere of Star Trek musical parody
This event is open to the public

MusicalWriters.com Productions, in collaboration with Theatre Wesleyan, is thrilled to present Khan!!! The Musical!, a hilariously campy parody based on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek: The Next Generation. This critically acclaimed Off-Broadway hit is set to make its Texas debut at the Law Sone Fine Arts Building at Texas Wesleyan University from Oct. 24–27 and Oct. 31–Nov. 3, 2024.

This exciting production features a unique partnership between professional cast members from the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the students and faculty of Texas Wesleyan University. Among the talented cast are Theatre Wesleyan alumni Ben Phillips and Joshua Sherman, who will be starring in the roles of Kirk and Spock, respectively.

Khan!!! The Musical! transports audiences to 2366, where Data, the beloved android from Star Trek: The Next Generation, presents his own musical comedy version of The Wrath of Khan on the Holodeck. With a bloodthirsty Khan seeking revenge on a washed-up James T. Kirk, and Data portraying multiple characters, this laugh-out-loud show-within-a-show is a love letter to Star Trek fans and musical lovers alike. Rated PG-13, Khan!!! The Musical! promises fun for everyone, even those unfamiliar with the Star Trek universe.

The show’s book, music, and lyrics are written by comedian, musician, and game developer Brent Black. Originally from Irving, TX, Brent is best known for his YouTube parody music channel Brentalfloss, which has garnered nearly half a million subscribers. His three Brentalfloss albums charted in the top ten on the iTunes and Billboard comedy charts, and he has performed live across North America and Europe. Black’s other musical works include I’ll Be Damned, an Off-Broadway musical that starred Mary Testa and Kenita Miller. He also co-created the video game Use Your Words and co-hosted the popular podcast Trends Like These with Travis McElroy.

"I grew up in DFW and I did a lot of theatre all over the Metroplex, so it’s very gratifying for me that the first stop after NYC is back home! The cast is outstanding and Theatre Wesleyan is helping to make it the best-looking production the show has ever had,” said Brent Black, writer of Khan!!! The Musical!.

Directing the production is Rebecca Lowrey, owner and CEO of MusicalWriters.com. With over 20 years of experience as a music director, vocal coach, and producer, Rebecca has a proven track record of bringing new works to life onstage. Her recent credits include Lizzie at Imprint Theatreworks and Gutenberg! The Musical! at Amphibian Stage. As a fierce advocate for diverse casting and production teams, Rebecca's leadership is helping bridge the gap between educational institutions and professional theater.

"Our collaboration with Theatre Wesleyan is a dream come true and a fantastic opportunity to showcase both professional and emerging talent. The energy and dedication of the cast, crew, and students make this production a standout. This show will be laugh out loud funny for both Trekkies and lovers of all things musical theatre!” said Rebecca Lowrey, Director and CEO of MusicalWriters.com.

This partnership between MusicalWriters.com Productions and Texas Wesleyan University brings together the professional cast with the incredible students and faculty of Theatre Wesleyan. The scenic, lighting, and costume teams are composed of both professional designers and Texas Wesleyan students, creating a unique, hands-on experience for the future generation of theater-makers.

Joe Brown, Chair of Theatre at Texas Wesleyan University, shared, “This collaboration is a milestone for us. It allows our students to learn from industry professionals, hone their craft, and contribute to a full-scale production that merges academic and professional theater.”
