Sumners Scholars Start Spring Break at Tarrant Area Food Bank
As the campus shut down for winter weather early on Friday, March 11, three of the six Sumners Scholars began their Spring Break at the Tarrant Area Food Bank for their bi-monthly volunteering.
Lexi Barlow, Manuel Lee and Benjamin Reckart spent the morning sorting, inspecting and re-packaging bulk donations at the Food Bank's Distribution Center in Fort Worth. The TAFB supplies nutritious food to partners in 13 North Texas counties.
Sumners Scholars engage in community service and selected the food bank as their community service project for the 2021-2022 academic year.
The Hatton W. Sumners Scholarship not only provides $5,500 each semester during a student's junior and senior years, but also offers students the opportunity to attend special conferences and activities. For more information about the Sumners Scholarship, visit txwes.edu/academics/sumners.
