Football

TXWES Football had a landmark season. The team went 7-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play, which was good for third place in the final SAC standings. The Rams also defended home turf, going an impressive 4-0 at Farrington Field. Ram fans enjoyed the team’s best season since its restart just five years ago. Head Coach Joe Prud’homme was named AFCA NAIA Region 5 coach of the year as a result of the successful season, adding to his collection of accolades. Said Athletic Director Ricky Dotson on the TXWES Football coach’s achievement, "I'm really happy to see Joe receive this award — he's truly deserving of the honor. Only he and his staff really know the work and the effort that he's put into building our football program, and the results are now starting to show. In my opinion, he's ahead of schedule with our program's development, and I think the best is yet to come." 14 athletes were named to the All-Conference teams including Adrian Johnson, who was also selected to the NAIA All-America list (honorable mention). Johnson, a senior defensive lineman from Center, Texas, led the NAIA with 13 sacks and set TXWES records for sacks in a single season and career sacks (14). The Rams can’t wait to play on true home turf, with the announcement of a new TXWES Athletics Stadium. 

Volleyball

TXWES Volleyball did it again. The team reached the NAIA National Championship for the fifth consecutive year with a historic season. TXWES finished the season with a 25-8 overall record as the 23rd ranked team in the NAIA. The team won the SAC regular-season championship, its first conference title since 2005. In just four seasons, head coach Jessica Ransom, the 2021 SAC Coach of the Year, is up to 96 wins. An abbreviated 2020 season notwithstanding, Ransom has led the team to at least 24 wins each season. The team went 18-5 in 2020. At 96-34, she holds a .738 winning percentage. Six Lady Rams were named to the All-SAC teams, including Bailey Foy and Veronika Webb, who each earned NAIA All-America status. Foy, who won SAC attacker of the year for the second consecutive season, becomes just the second player in program history to be selected to the NAIA All-America first team twice and in two consecutive seasons. The last player to achieve the feat was Kristen Tuttle, who won first-team designations in the 1989 and 1990 seasons. The program has 29 NAIA All-Americans all-time. The team ranked sixth in the nation in hitting (.272), tenth in kills per set (13.80), eighth in assists per set (13.06), and 12th in total assists (1,625).

Men’s Soccer

TXWES Men’s Soccer is making moves. The team finished the 2021 season at 9-7-3 and 7-1-1 on home turf – a marked improvement over a 3-10-2 2020 season. The team upset third-seeded Wayland Baptist on penalty kicks (7-6) in the opening round of the SAC Tournament, advancing to the semifinal match for the first time since 2014. Oscar Odriozola was named All-SAC. The junior forward from Monterrey, Mexico led the Rams with 10 goals and finished the season with 21 points and .565 shots on goal percentage.

Women’s Soccer

The Lady Rams salvaged a winning record at 8-7-2 (6-1-2 at home) despite being decimated by injuries that kept the team from operating at full strength for most of the season. The Lady Rams made the SAC Tournament, dropping the opening round game to Science & Arts. Since head coach Josh Gibbs took the helm in 2006, the Lady Rams have never missed a conference tournament appearance. In 16 seasons, Gibbs is 179-91-14 (.630) and has collected three conference coach of year awards.

Cross Country

The Texas Wesleyan Cross Country teams competed for the first time since 2019 due to the 2020 season being wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rams finished third at the SAC Championships, while the Lady Rams took a fifth-place finish. Denzel Kiptoo led the team with a 12th place finish for the men, while Rianna Vidales finished 6th for the women. Kiptoo, Vidales and Veronica Moreno, who finished eighth, all took home All-SAC honors. Vidales qualified for the NAIA National Championships, running the Vancouver, Wash. course in 19:46.8, good for the 17th best all-time performance for a Lady Ram at the national championships.
