Meet Cheyenne Manuel, Alumni Scholarship Recipient

Congratulations to Cheyenne Manuel, one of four recipients of the 2025-26 Alumni Legacy Scholarship! Cheyenne is a junior English major and this is her second year to receive the scholarship.
What inspired you to pursue your field of study?
Growing up as the shy girl who rarely spoke up in class and always had her nose buried in a book, writing has been a way for me to communicate that I can communicate. It gave me the chance to speak when my mouth wouldn't, as well as to be creative like all of the stories I've read. By studying English, I've been able to explore others' written voices and further discover my own.
How would you describe the TXWES community in three words?
Welcoming, diverse, and fun!
Do you have a favorite spot on campus where you like to spend time?
Whenever I'm not in class, I'll be found in The Engage Studio. I work there as an Instructional Assistant, where I help other students with their communication skills. The atmosphere there is absolutely cozy and wonderful; I find myself gravitating towards it even when I'm not on the clock. The people I work with are like my second family and I appreciate them with all my heart.
If you could say one thing to the donors who made your scholarship possible, what would it be?
Thank you so much for the opportunity to further connect with the family members who have attended before me. It's so refreshing to know that I can continue walking on the same path as they did and make them proud with each step I take.
