Cal Coker of Fort Worth has been named the 2019 recipient of the Ben Hogan Foundation Mentor Scholarship.
The sixth student to be selected for the award, Cal will attend Texas Wesleyan in the fall with four years of tuition, fees and books covered. He will also be paired with a successful Fort Worth business professional.
“When I found out I was selected for the Ben Hogan Foundation Mentor Scholarship, I was super excited,” Coker said. “It’s a dream come true to stay in Fort Worth and go to school. It is a huge honor to receive the award.”
The First Tee of Fort Worth, which teaches life skills through golf, nominates students who meet the criteria and have excelled in The First Tee program. The Ben Hogan Foundation interviews the applicants and selects the recipient. Selections are based on academics, community service and character.
“It is a privilege to partner with the Ben Hogan Foundation and The First Tee to honor Mr. Hogan’s legacy in Fort Worth through this program,” Texas Wesleyan University President Frederick G. Slabach said.
Cal plans to study finance at Texas Wesleyan while playing for the men’s golf team.
