Dumplin' selected at TXWES Reads One Book for '20-21
West Library’s year-long book club, TXWES Reads, will continue in '20-21. The selection is Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy. Written by a Texas Wesleyan alumnus, Dumplin’ is a feel-good story of finding support and triumph in unexpected places.
Availabe in print, ebook and audiobook, Dumplin’ was published in 2015. Commonsense Media called it a “smart, funny, plus-size coming-of-age story.” Kirkus Reviews called it “liberating with bits of humor and a jubilant pageant takeover by beauty rebels.”
Begun in 2017, TXWES Reads was developed as a way to bring the Texas Wesleyan community together by encouraging students, staff and faculty to read and discuss the same book. Past books have been 1984 by George Orwell, Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
A calender of events will be coming soon.
