The Eunice & James L. West Library is sponsoring the TXWES Reads One Book program, currently in its fourth year. This year’s book is Dumplin’ by Texas Wesleyan alumna Julie Murphy ’10. The purpose of the One Book program is to bring the TXWES community together and encourage students, staff and faculty to join together to read and discuss the same book.
The official kickoff of the program is currently underway! West Library is accepting submissions for their virtual beauty pageant. Submit your answer to the question “What is your favorite crayon color and why?” along with your most creative headshot and t-shirt size to reference@txwes.edu. Entries are being accepted until Oct. 18, and the winners will be announced on Oct. 23.
Dumplin’ was first published in 2015 as a young adult novel, but has earned praise from all audiences. It was adapted into a movie available on Netflix in 2018. In a review of the book, Lauren Wengrovitz says “Dumplin’ will make you laugh, smile, swoon, and cry. It is inspirational and enjoyable and thought-provoking ... I highly recommend it for everyone, no matter your size or gender or age or anything else.”
