Moritz Fieldhouse Marks a New Era for Texas Wesleyan Athletics

New facility strengthens TXWES Athletics during University’s 135th anniversary year
FORT WORTH, Texas– The grand opening of the Moritz Fieldhouse marks a defining moment for Texas Wesleyan University athletics. Designed to support multiple teams, the new facility provides a cutting-edge home base for football, flag football, soccer, and track and field programs unifying and elevating the entire athletic department.
For Head Football Coach Brad Sherrod, the fieldhouse represents far more than bricks and mortar; it’s a milestone reflecting the growth, commitment, and vision of TXWES Athletics.
“The credit really goes to our leadership, alumni, and partnerships in dreaming what our programs could become,” Sherrod said. “Now, we’re reaping the benefits, and it’s on us to honor that by how we play and take care of what’s been given to us. This facility is symbolic of our TXWES values of connection, commitment, compassion and courage.”
This modern facility gives student-athletes a new home base with dedicated locker rooms, meeting spaces, and amenities that save time, add convenience while and strengthening the team connection. Previously, players carried their gear across campus daily. Now, they can shower, drop off laundry, and head straight to class or the dining hall due to the thoughtful planning in how this fieldhouse serves students and the athletic program.
With the opening of the fieldhouse during Texas Wesleyan’s 135th anniversary year, the Moritz Fieldhouse stands as a symbol of the university’s enduring commitment to progress and its investment in the future of student-athletes. With very few schools in the conference that have a dedicated football facility of this scale, our athletic program continues to position TXWES as a competitive destination for prospective for athletes.
John David Moritz, president of Moritz Dealerships and namesake benefactor, emphasized the shared vision behind the project, “At Moritz, we believe in investing in futures both on the field and in the classroom. The fieldhouse affirms our commitment to the students, athletes, and staff of Texas Wesleyan. We’re proud to stand alongside the University as it continues to build a legacy of excellence, teamwork, and community empowerment.”
Ricky Dotson, Athletic Director, noted that the Moritz Fieldhouse represents both the progress of the program and the promise of what’s ahead.
“This facility changes everything for our athletes,” Dotson said. “It gives our teams a central home where they can train, prepare, and build camaraderie. More importantly, it shows our current and future student-athletes that Texas Wesleyan is fully invested in their success academically, athletically, and personally. On behalf of all our student athletes, thank you to John David Moritz for envisioning with us our incredible fieldhouse.”
President Dr. Emily W. Messer said the new facility reflects the university’s long-standing promise to continue providing cutting-edge opportunities for students.
“The Moritz Fieldhouse embodies our belief that excellence begins with opportunity,” Messer said. “By creating spaces that support our student-athletes, we are reinforcing their potential to lead, compete, and contribute on the field and in life. We are deeply grateful to John David and all who share our vision for shaping the next generation of leaders.”
Coach Sherrod views the new facility as both an achievement and a starting point. It reflects how far the program has come and hints at what’s next bringing football games to campus to create a true home-field experience for students, alumni, and the Fort Worth community.
“I’m thankful for our administration, alumni, and donors who helped make this possible,” Sherrod said. “This is a big step forward, but we can’t stop here. We’re still growing, and there’s more to come.”
Beyond athletics, the Moritz Fieldhouse represents a lasting investment in student success. From upgraded facilities to a stronger sense of unity, the Fieldhouse is built not just for today’s Rams but for generations to come.
