Texas Wesleyan University choir members will travel with a delegation of 71 Fort Worth ambassadors on an official exchange to Guiyang, China, from April 13 to April 22, to celebrate the signing of Fort Worth’s eighth Sister City partnership.

The trip is the result of an invitation from Mayor Li Zaiyong of Guiyang, Guizhou Province, China. Mayor Li extended the invitation on Oct. 17, 2011, after the Wesleyan Chamber Singers sang for the official signing of Guiyang as Fort Worth’s eighth sister city. 

The delegates will learn more about Fort Worth’s newest Sister City, as well as China during their visit by exploring sites of historic interest in and around Guiyang, a city of more than three million, as well as Beijing and Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall.

During the official signing, Councilman Shingleton will present Mayor Li with a memento commemorating the 2006 NAIA National Championship Texas Wesleyan Basketball Team. Shingleton is the father of Wesleyan Associate Head Coach Brennen Shingleton. In addition, Mayor Li will be presented with a certificate of honorary membership in the Rams Table Tennis Team. 

John Fisher, chair of the music department, and Jerome Bierschenk, director of choral activities, will accompany the 28-person choir.  State Senator Jane Nelson and City Councilman Dennis Shingleton will lead the delegation.
