Men's basketball passes out food to Contreras Elementary families
FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team stepped up to help the Fort Worth community last Friday, serving the Alice D. Contreras Elementary School community.
On August 14, members on the basketball team distributed 25 lb. pre-packaged dry food and vegetable packages to over 100 families in the community. Texas Wesleyan men's basketball partnered with Contreras Elementary, as well as Blue Zones and Tarrant Area Food Bank.
Contreras Elementary is a regular program and a dual language school, serving student from diverse backgrounds. The Title I school hosts approximately 600 students with 33 homeroom classes.
This is the third year that TXWES Rams men's basketball has served the Contreras Elementary community, and the team plans to serve the community again sometime this month.
The team has served in the Daggett Elementary community for the last five years with similar projects.
Last season, the Rams went 21-9 overall and 14-6 in SAC play and had their NAIA national championship run cut short by the coronavirus pandemic. The team, along with the many other fall and winter sports await an announcement of a restructured schedule for the 2020-21 season.
