Academic success center announces new academic coach
Texas Wesleyan is pleased to announce the hiring of alumnus Victor Anchondo ’15 as the university’s newest academic coach. This four-year grant-funded position will focus on assisting students to develop behaviors, skills and good habits that will contribute to their overall success in college— such as goal setting, developing individualized learning strategies, time-management, organization and self-regulation.
“Victor’s career in education supports his love for the craft of learning,” said Sonja Gaddy, coordinator of academic support and testing. “He is passionate about teaching and providing structure for students to have multiple entry points to improve their capacity to learn. We are honored to have his support in building an academic coaching program.”
To ensure these targeted areas are met, Victor will develop academic workshops, interventions and collaborate with faculty and staff to promote an inclusive environment where they can work together to meet individual student needs.
“Being able to develop everlasting relationships with my students and sharing my experiences and expertise to improve their learning and mindset is something I am excited about in this new role,” said Anchondo. “The impact I will have on my students is about spreading an optimistic mentality on receiving a college education and life after graduation. This position is a great opportunity to reach students on another level that caters to their needs and provides additional support.”
