History program hosts scholars for the 2023 New Deal Symposium
The History Program hosted over 50 regional scholars for a day-long New Deal Symposium at Texas Wesleyan. The annual symposium was sponsored by the East Texas Historical Association. It began with a welcome from Dr. Ricardo "Ric" Rodriguez, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, and was followed by three sessions with multiple presentations on subjects concerning the New Deal.
Texas Wesleyan A. M. Pate Professor of History Brenda Matthews presented her own research on the Farm Security Administration and healthcare system in Taos, New Mexico in the 1940s. Following lunch, there was a roundtable discussion on the importance and relevance of teaching the New Deal to today's university students.
