Dr. Brenda Matthews named A. M. Pate Endowed Chair in History

Dr. Brenda Taylor Matthews has been named the A. M. Pate Endowed Chair in History. This endowed Chair in History was established by the estate of Aggie Pate Jr. in 2011 and since its inception has funded students through Pate Scholarships and faculty research. As of Fall 2017, the endowment will be used to fund the Chair in History.
The announcement was made at a luncheon hosted by President Frederick G. Slabach and attended by family members of the late Aggie M. Pate, Jr., for whom the Chair is named. Family members in attendance were Joyce Pate Capper, Bob Capper, Sheila Barley and Todd Miller.
The luncheon also honored 8 outstanding history students who had received Pate Scholarships for the 2016/2017 academic year. The Pate Scholars for the year were (pictured) Bailey Dozier, McKayla Harwell, Sherry Newton, Christopher Campbell and (not pictured) Emilia Egel, Richard Burnett, Clark Williams, Stevie Jackson.
