History students represent department at 2016 University College Day

History students and faculty were actively involved in this year's University College Day (UCD). Professor Brenda Matthews', Ph.D., students and Professor Christopher Ohan's, Ph.D., students participated.
Texas History students displayed 18 posters chronicling the history of small Texas towns. The Oral History class made a group presentation entitled “Family Secrets: Stories from the History of Texas Wesleyan,” which is based on interviews with alumni stretching from the 1960s to the 1990s, to faculty who have been at the institution since the 1960s and 1970s, as well as long-time staff and administrators.
Consistent with this year's UCD theme of "Celebrating 125 Years: The Secret is Out," the keynote address entitled "The College on the Hill: Texas Wesleyan University: 125 Years of Tradition" was delivered by Matthews and Elizabeth Alexander, Ph.D.
Awards were given to the top four poster presentations, which were judged by Drs. Helena Bussell, Elizabeth Alexander, Jeffrey Stone and Christopher Ohan. The judges recognized the following students as award recipients:
- Sherry Newton for "Jefferson, Texas"
- McKayla Harwell for "Burleson, Texas"
- Gage Denton for "Canton: Realizing Life in a Small Town"
- Rowan Lehr for "Crowley: A City that was Created by Conveyance"
Prizes were funded by the History program's Aggie Pate Endowment.
