Mass communication department chair Colley publishes essay examining Snapchat
Dr. Kay L. Colley, associate professor of mass communication and department chair, recently published an essay in the book “7 Days to a Byline That Pays” from Michael Ray Smith. The book became available for purchase after an online Facebook launch in September.
Colley’s essay, “Snapchat is one of the best tools for new writers” looks at the social media tool Snapchat and its use in journalism today, particularly as a way to reach a younger, less engaged news audience that is more engaged with mobile technologies.
“Today’s news market requires traditional media outlets to look at more mobile focused technologies such as Snapchat,” Colley said. “Younger people get their news in mobile ways. To capture that younger market, legacy media are going to have to learn how to optimize Snapchat and a host of other mobile-focused tools for disseminating the news.
You can read Colley’s essay in the book, now available in paperback and on any mobile device.
