Music student Michael Nguyen has been awarded the prestigious Collegiate Music Educator Award from the Texas Music Educators Association. This award, only given to the finest and most dedicated future music educators across the state, is an indication of quality for those looking to hire outstanding new teachers. Qualifications include a 3.5 or better GPA and the candidate providing non-mandatory music instruction or being otherwise significantly involved in the local music education community.
Nguyen, an exemplary music education student in the final semester of his degree, has more than proven his dedication during his time at Texas Wesleyan. Dr. Ilka Araújo, chair of the Department of Music at Texas Wesleyan, says, "Michael is a wonderful student and very much deserving of this recognition. Kids need teachers who know how to succeed, know how to overcome adversity and care for them deeply. Based on his experience here at Texas Wesleyan, I know he is going to be a great teacher and is going to make a positive impact on his community and beyond. I am excited about the wonderful teacher he will be."
