Support our neighbors at the TXWES Community Fair on April 21
The TXWES Sociology Department is hosting a new community fair, Support Our Neighbors, in collaboration with Justice for Our Neighbors and the Workers Defense Project, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, in Polytechnic United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The fair will provide information about resources and services that are available for our neighborhood, along with free food and children’s games and prizes.
“This event will help our neighbors become aware of the services and resources that are available to them. As a major part of the neighborhood, I feel that Texas Wesleyan plays a large part in helping and supporting our neighbors,” Alison Simons, Ph.D., assistant professor of sociology, said. “Hopefully this will help network and provide stronger ties with the neighborhood.”
Simons was first inspired to organize this event after researching with one of her classes and realizing the need for the University to interact with the community. Simons is also working on a Resource Center on campus that neighbors can access for help finding information on resources and services available to them.
