What began as an invitation by SPN4369 students to Dr. Ricardo E. Rodriguez, Dean of Arts and Sciences, to come by on the last day of class for a meal and an "encore presentation" of their popular University College Day talk, "Ni de aquí ni de allá: La búsqueda de identidad en la Literatura Latinx de los Estados Unidos," quickly morphed into a full-on Alumni/Student Mixer.

Dr. Amy Bell, program director of Spanish, quipped to the crowd of current and former TXWES students at the gathering, "This event was originally only meant to give Dr. Rodriguez a chance to see the presentation, because, despite his background in science, he has yet to discover a means of cloning himself, and was thus unable to attend multiple UCD presentations scheduled for the same time slot. Our class was planning to invite him for mole con arroz on the last day of class, but instead he has wound up treating all of us to this party."

The Department of Alumni Relations made a strong show of support for the event. Brian Builta, assistant vice president for advancement, Jeri Chipman, director of alumni relations and development officers Josh Gibbs and Amy Tate-Almy attended. Among the alumni were Sandra Garcia, Texas state chair of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas and member of the TXWES President's Advisory Council, Rosa Maria Berdeja, attorney and board member of the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Xochitl Villalpando, administrative services officer at UTA and board member of MANA de North Texas. Following SPN4369 students' presentation, a question-and-answer session allowed students to ask alumni about their experiences at TXWES. After the Q&A, Elena Cruce awarded Alfonso Salais, outgoing president of the Latinx Student Association, the prestigious Guardian of the Golden Shears award.
