Kimberly Webb Ph.D., associate professor of accounting, received the United Methodist Church’s Exemplary Teacher of the Year Award for her excellence in the classroom at TXWES.
Webb was honored and excited to receive the award because it recognizes her for what she enjoys most about her job: excellence in teaching; civility and concern for students and colleagues; commitment to value-centered education; and service to students, the institution, and the community.
“I love working at Texas Wesleyan University with a close-knit community of faculty and students who value each other as well as the educational experience,” she said. “I always strive to achieve excellence in my teaching in order to help my students not only understand the material but to also see the value of the subject matter in the bigger picture.”
Webb’s favorite part of teaching is interacting with students. Her past professors at University of the Cumberlands inspired her to become an educator. She had several professors that were enthusiastic about their topics and made the learning process engaging by drawing on hands-on experience.
“As I watched those professors and learned from them, I could see that teaching was rewarding,” she said. “I had several professors that really cared about their students and went out of their way to help them. I have aspired to embody these same characteristics in my teaching. Interacting with my students and helping them to achieve their goals is what I enjoy most about teaching.”
At Texas Wesleyan’s School of Business, students get a front-row seat to success. They’re taught critical thinking skills that give them an advantage in their field. Accounting majors are set up for success thanks to advanced courses that are required by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy in order to sit for the Certified Public Accountant exam.
The United Methodist Church’s General Board of Higher Education and Ministry selects the recipient of its Exemplary Teacher of the Year Award. It recognizes educators that were nominated by their institution’s leader for exceptional service to the school and excellence in education.
