On Thursday, Jan. 24, GM Financial came to the School of Business during free period with the help of Career Services. GM Financial is a subsidiary that is the financial arm of General Motors. Texas Wesleyan and GM Financial hope to establish a relationship to successfully aid students with internships and career development.
Senior Talent Advisor of GM Financial, Rod Hooker informed students of the summer internship opportunities available. Hooker emphasized the importance of a productive work environment with ideals like teamwork and integrity.
“There’s a lot of classified information being processed. So, we need to be sure it is handled with the upmost integrity.” Hooker said.
GM Financial is split into four categories: Dealer Services, Information Technology, Corporate, and Consumer. The internship opportunities are split along these four divisions as well to allow students to work in an area that suits them.
Sarah Benitez, senior finance major, couldn’t stay for long, but still left with a good impression. “General Motors is a well-known company with a good variety in internships. I will definitely be applying.” Benitez said.
The internships are 10-week paid positions in the Dallas Fort Worth area where you can apply methods learned from college courses.
“Just like the customers,” Hooker said.
“We want you to get the full experience that will propel you in your future career.” Michael Gatton, Associate Director of Career Services, offered to assist students in applying with mock interviews and resume reviews. “If anyone needs help, we (Career Services) can check resumes before students apply,” Gatton said. “We will also be holding a Career Fair this semester and GM Financial is invited.”
Hooker believes speaking with Career Services is the best way to get in touch with them as they work directly through the department.
The deadline for the summer internships is at the end of April.
